Allie Bonner, whom she was affectionately known as, was a savvy businesswoman whose success conquered two major hurdles, being female and black.

Her contributions to the education and literacy of Blacks, especially church musicians, were notable. She sold Gospel sheet music for $.25 to $.30 per sheet out of her home from which she sustained a profitable lifestyle for her family.
