An 8-year-old boy named W. Leo Daniels preached to corn stalks in the fields of Center, Texas, a precursory action to the thousands of people his singing and preaching would inspire years later.

In 1969 Pastor W. Leo Daniels hosted the Gospel Melody Hour, Houston’s first Black Gospel Music TV Show. It featured the Daniels Gospel Singers under the direction of his wife, Navarro, and Gloria Harrison as organist, along with a Gospel trio called “Angelic Melodiares,” whose members were Ronnie Porter, Ellen Porter, and Katie Jones. Rev. Daniels was the first Gospel Music Workshop of America representative for the Texas Division.
